Abstract

|
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine oral health attitudes and awareness regarding national health insurance coverage of dental scaling.
Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 261 undergraduates in Korea from September 4 to October 4, 2016. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0, for Pearson’s correlation analysis.
Results: More than half of the undergraduates (64.4%) were not aware of national health insurance coverage for dental scaling. The greater the inawareness of scaling, the greater the awareness regarding national health insurance coverage (p<0.01).
Conclusions: It is necessary for undergraduates to have regular dental scaling checkups and they should be made aware of the health insurance coverage for scaling. Preventive oral health care may improve oral health care and quality of life.
